Scottsdale History
In about 800 A.D., the Hohokam people thrived and farmed in the territory known to us now as Scottsdale. The people developed miles of canals to support their agricultural harvesting using only minimal tools available. The area, originally named Orangedale was changed to Scottsdale when a man by the name of George Washington Scott became the first resident. Since then Scottsdale has grown tremendously with new housing developments arising along with the rest of Arizona. In 1993, the City of Scottsdale was awarded the Most Livable City Award by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
